People planting

CDBA provides training, tools, and data that members rely on to generate positive economic outcomes in their communities.

We offer resources to help members achieve financial and impact goals, whether raising deposits, making transformative loans in their communities, or innovating products and services.

CDBA connects members with solutions and resources that help them serve their communities.

Storytelling

CDFI and mission-focused banks create opportunities every day by providing access to capital and other financial services for those too often left out of the economic mainstream, but they are often less successful in discussing these victories with the many constituencies — customers, investors, depositors, employees, policymakers, and other external stakeholders — who would be interested to learn more.

CDBA helps its members build skills in telling their story, which is vital in fostering connections, building trust and loyalty, and differentiating a brand in competitive markets. Good storytelling drives interest, community, relationships, and ultimately, revenue.

Data Tools

Data is essential in the CDFI sector to comply with regulations, manage risk, measure impact, and direct capital where it’s needed most.

Peer Reports
Peer Financial Performance Reports

The CDBA Peer Analysis is a quarterly benchmarking tool designed exclusively for our members. Each report provides an in-depth comparative analysis of financial performance, growth trends, and portfolio composition across member banks, CDFI-certified institutions, and the broader banking industry.

Through easy-to-read charts and scorecards, the report highlights key metrics such as return on assets, return on equity, net interest margin, efficiency ratio, nonperforming assets, and capital ratios. It also includes loan and deposit composition, liquidity and funding trends, and small business lending activity.

The report helps mission-driven banks evaluate their financial health, identify emerging risks, and benchmark performance against peer institutions. A proprietary scoring system developed by Stifel ranks each member bank on a set of core indicators, giving leaders an objective perspective on progress and growth.

The quarterly Peer Scorecard Report equips CDBA members with the data they need to strengthen decision-making, communicate impact, and sustain growth in the communities they serve.

Policy Map

PolicyMap is a powerful and intuitive mapping and data-analysis platform that helps users visualize and understand communities across the country; our members use the web-based program to drive decisions about products, services, and markets. Its datasets include geographic eligibility information needed for CDFI certification and access to Federal programs.

The data warehouse contains more than 75,000 indicators covering demographics, housing, economic conditions, infrastructure, education, environment, health, and social determinants of health. It gathers data from more than 170 public and proprietary sources.

Users can create custom maps instantly, layer multiple indicators, upload and download data, publish and share maps, build dashboards, and generate reports. CDBA makes PolicyMap available to its members at sharply reduced rates. Please contact CDBA directly for more information about pricing.

PolicyMap has become an essential tool in managing and monitoring our CDFI lending activity. The platform’s bulk upload feature and intuitive reporting make it easy to track our loan performance for BEA and TLR reporting, as well as for CDFI recertification. We’ve also provided access to our loan officers, allowing them to quickly assess whether a loan supports our CDFI qualifications. The visual mapping feature is particularly valuable — it enables our entire team to easily see where loans are being originated and helps guide our strategic planning by identifying areas where we need to focus. It’s a user-friendly, comprehensive resource that supports both compliance and community impact.

Deposit Programs

Many mission-based banks must look outside of their immediate communities to source the deposits that fund their loans. CDBA has long recognized this critical business challenge and has developed programs to help its members tackle it. More than 80 CDFIs and minority depository institutions participate in our largest program, through which more than $100 million of deposit funding is available.
